TOWA APN-100 Label Applicator
Manual Handheld Applicator for Large Rectangular Roll Labels up to 100 mm Wide
The TOWA APN-100 is a manual handheld label applicator designed for applying larger pre-printed rectangular roll labels quickly and consistently without requiring electricity, batteries or compressed air.
Within TOWA's APN Series, the APN-100 provides the widest label capacity. It supports rectangular labels from 50 mm to 100 mm wide and approximately 18 mm to 60 mm long.
Its mechanical label-sensing system automatically detects compatible label spacing, helping operators work with different label sizes within the supported range without normal manual sensor adjustment.
The APN-100 can be considered for product identification, carton labelling, barcode labels, warning labels, packaging labels, warehouse identification and other manual labelling applications where wider rectangular labels are required.
Overview
The TOWA APN Series consists of different applicator sizes for different label-width requirements.
The APN-100 is intended for larger rectangular labels.

TOWA Mech-Sensor
The APN-100 uses TOWA's mechanical label-sensing system.
The Mech-Sensor detects the label as the web moves through the applicator and automatically accommodates compatible label strokes within the specified operating range.
This allows the applicator to handle different compatible rectangular label sizes without requiring normal manual sensor alignment each time the operator changes labels.
The mechanical design is particularly useful for workplaces where several label sizes are used but all remain within the APN-100 specification.
No Electricity Required
The APN-100 operates mechanically.
It requires no:
-
AC power
-
Power adapter
-
Rechargeable battery
-
Disposable battery
-
Compressed air
-
Network connection
-
Software
This makes it suitable for portable manual labelling across warehouses, production floors, packing stations, retail areas and other locations.
Label Width: 50–100 mm
The defining feature of the APN-100 is its wider label capacity.
It supports labels from:
50 mm minimum width
to
100 mm maximum width
This makes it appropriate for applications where APN-30 or APN-60 cannot accommodate the required label width.
Possible widths include:
50 mm
60 mm
70 mm
80 mm
90 mm
100 mm
The complete label and liner dimensions should still be checked before ordering.
Label Length: 18–60 mm
The standard specified label length / stroke range is:
18–60 mm
Label length is separate from label width.
For example, a label measuring:
80 mm wide × 40 mm long
falls within the basic APN-100 dimensional range.
However, size alone does not establish full compatibility. Label material, thickness, liner, gap, core and winding should also be checked.
Label Gap: 2–3 mm
TOWA recommends approximately:
2–3 mm gap between labels
for the APN Series.
Correct spacing helps the mechanical sensor identify and dispense labels consistently.
Where the customer's roll uses an unusual gap, compatibility should be tested rather than assumed.
Maximum Liner Width: 104 mm
The APN-100 accepts a maximum release-liner width of approximately:
104 mm
This distinction is important.
A customer may say:
“My label is 100 mm wide.”
But the actual release liner may be wider than 100 mm.
Therefore both measurements should be checked:
Label Width
and
Total Liner Width
A 100 mm label on a liner wider than 104 mm may not be suitable.
Standard Maximum Roll Diameter: 100 mm
With its standard roll arrangement, the APN-100 accepts label rolls with an outside diameter up to approximately:
100 mm
Roll diameter should be checked before ordering because a label can have the correct width but still be supplied on a roll too large for the standard applicator.
Optional 3-Inch Core Roll Adapter
TOWA offers a separate 3-inch Core Roll Adapter for current APN and APF label applicators.
With this accessory, TOWA states that compatible rolls with an outside diameter up to approximately:
130 mm
can be used.
This can be useful where customers purchase larger-volume rolls on 3-inch cores.
The adapter is an accessory and should not be assumed to be included with the standard APN-100.
Core Diameter
For standard operation, TOWA specifies a core diameter of:
25 mm or greater
and recommends approximately:
38–51 mm / 1.5–2 inches
for normal use.
The APN-60 and APN-100 documentation also identifies a 1.5-inch core adapter with the applicable standard configuration.
For 3-inch cores, the separate 3-inch adapter should be considered.
Recommended Label Material
For standard operation, TOWA recommends:
Paper label material
with
Glassine release liner
Labels should generally be at least:
50 μm thick
Special materials may behave differently.
Examples include:
-
Synthetic labels
-
Film labels
-
Very thin labels
-
Specialty constructions
-
Unusual release liners
These should be tested before ordering multiple applicators.
Recommended Winding Direction
TOWA recommends inner-wound labels.
Outer-wound media may be usable in some circumstances, but TOWA notes that the curl of the label can make operation more difficult.
For a new label order intended specifically for APN-100 use, an appropriate inner-wound construction is preferable.
Rectangular Label Applications
The APN Series is primarily intended for:
Rectangular labels
and
Square labels
The APN-100 should therefore not be described as a universal applicator for every label shape.
For round, oval and other non-rectangular labels, the TOWA APF Series should be evaluated instead.
Barcode Label Applications
The APN-100 can apply compatible pre-printed barcode labels.
Possible applications include:
-
Product identification
-
Carton labels
-
Inventory labels
-
Asset labels
-
Shipping identification
-
Warehouse labels
-
Manufacturing labels
-
Serial-number labels
The APN-100 does not print the barcode.
A separate barcode or label printer is required to create the labels.
QR-Code Label Applications
Compatible rectangular QR-code labels can also be applied with the APN-100 where the roll construction meets the applicator requirements.
The APN-100 only applies the label.
QR-code creation and print quality depend on the label-printing system.
RFID Label Applications
Compatible rectangular RFID labels may also be considered where their dimensions and construction fall within the APN-100 operating requirements.
However:
The TOWA APN-100 does not encode RFID tags.
It is a mechanical label applicator.
RFID encoding must be performed separately using appropriate RFID equipment where required.
Because RFID inlays can change the physical characteristics of a label, sample testing is recommended before committing to a large quantity.
Warning and Caution Labels
The wider 50–100 mm label capacity makes the APN-100 particularly relevant for larger visual labels such as:
-
Warning labels
-
Caution labels
-
Handling labels
-
Inspection labels
-
Quality-control labels
-
Packaging instructions
-
Product-status labels
The actual label must still meet the dimensional and material requirements.
Packaging Applications
Potential packaging uses include:
-
Product identification
-
Carton identification
-
Box labels
-
Package-sealing labels
-
Inspection labels
-
Quality labels
-
Batch labels
-
Handling labels
The APN-100 is intended for manual operation.
For high-speed production lines requiring automatic label positioning, an automated label applicator or print-and-apply system should be evaluated instead.
Manufacturing Applications
The APN-100 may be useful for:
-
Product identification
-
Component labels
-
Work-in-process labels
-
Quality-control stickers
-
Inspection labels
-
Warning labels
-
Serial-number labels
-
Packaging identification
Its manual operation can suit production environments where label volume does not justify a fully automated application system.
Warehouse Applications
Potential warehouse uses include:
-
Carton labels
-
Inventory identification
-
Location labels
-
Status labels
-
Routing labels
-
Inspection stickers
-
Returns identification
-
Internal logistics labels
Because no power is required, the applicator can move with the worker rather than remaining at a fixed workstation.
Retail Applications
Potential retail uses include:
-
Larger product labels
-
Promotional labels
-
Markdown identification
-
Packaging labels
-
Product-information stickers
-
Backroom inventory labels
For small labels, APN-30 or APN-60 may be easier to handle because the smaller applicators weigh less.
The largest model should not automatically be selected simply because it supports more width.
Food Processing and Produce Applications
TOWA identifies food processing and fruit/vegetable production among environments where its label applicators are used.
Potential applications include:
-
Product identification
-
Packaging labels
-
Batch labels
-
Handling labels
-
Promotional labels
TOWA also offers an optional sponge roller intended for delicate products such as fruit.
Food-contact, regulatory and traceability requirements remain the responsibility of the customer's label material, printing system and operating process.
APN-30 vs APN-60 vs APN-100
TOWA APN-30
Label Width: 20–30 mm
Maximum Liner Width: 34 mm
Approximate Weight: 294 g
Best suited to narrow rectangular labels.
TOWA APN-60
Label Width: 25–60 mm
Maximum Liner Width: 64 mm
Approximate Weight: 347 g
Suitable for medium-width rectangular labels.
TOWA APN-100
Label Width: 50–100 mm
Maximum Liner Width: 104 mm
Approximate Weight: 395 g
Designed for wider rectangular labels.
The correct model should be chosen from the actual label dimensions.
A smaller model is generally lighter to handle, so there is no benefit in choosing APN-100 for a 30 mm label.
APN-100 vs APF-100
This distinction is important.
TOWA APN-100
Label Width: 50–100 mm
Designed primarily for square and rectangular labels.
Automatic Mech-Sensor.
TOWA APF-100
Label Width: 20–100 mm
Supports rectangular labels plus round, oval and other non-rectangular shapes.
Uses an adjustable/slidable Mech-Sensor.
Choose according to label shape as well as width.
How the APN-100 Works
A typical workflow is:
1. Confirm the label roll
Check width, length, gap, liner, core and roll diameter.
2. Load the roll
Install the compatible pre-printed label roll into the APN-100.
3. Feed the label web
Route the web correctly through the applicator.
4. Secure the mechanism
Make sure the roll and liner are positioned correctly.
5. Squeeze the handle
The applicator advances the web and presents the next label.
6. Position the applicator
Place the exposed label against the required product or package.
7. Apply the label
Use the applicator roller to transfer the label onto the surface.
Purpose of Use
The APN-100 is designed to simplify repetitive manual label application.
Instead of:
Find Label Edge → Peel Label by Hand → Hold Liner → Position Label → Apply
the workflow becomes:
Load Roll → Squeeze Handle → Position → Apply
The benefit is operational convenience rather than printing or automation.

Why NEOTECH® UAE?
For the TOWA APN-100, simply knowing that a label is “100 mm” is not enough.
We recommend verifying:
Is 100 mm the label width or liner width?
What is the label length?
What is the gap?
What is the total liner width?
What is the roll diameter?
What is the core diameter?
Is the label paper, film or synthetic?
Is the label rectangular?
These checks reduce the risk of supplying an applicator that looks correct from the headline dimensions but does not feed the customer's actual label roll correctly.
NEOTECH® focuses on straightforward hardware and compatibility review.
For automated production-line labeling, custom automation or print-and-apply projects, a qualified labeling-system integrator should evaluate the complete application.
