Manufacturer EOL Announcement: 9 May 2024
Last Order Date: 9 November 2024
Manufacturer End of Service: 9 November 2027
Official Successor: BioStation 2a
Successor Models: BS2A-ODPB / BS2A-OAPWB

The original Suprema BioStation 2 shown on this page is now a discontinued product family.

Suprema officially announced the discontinuation of BS2-OEPW, BS2-OMPW and BS2-OHPW and designated the newer BioStation 2a platform as their successor.

For the HID Prox model BS2-OHPW, the manufacturer-designated successor is BS2A-OAPWB.

Discontinued status does not mean an existing BioStation 2 should automatically be replaced. Existing installations may continue to require the original model for maintenance, expansion or replacement purposes. Customers should verify their exact existing model, credential technology and BioStar environment before ordering.

Product Overview

The Suprema BioStation 2 is a professional IP fingerprint terminal developed for biometric access control and time-attendance applications.

It combines a 500 dpi fingerprint sensor with model-dependent RFID credentials, PIN authentication, network connectivity and access-control interfaces in an IP65-rated enclosure.

BioStation 2 was designed for deployments requiring substantial user and event capacity, networked management and integration with the Suprema ecosystem.

The product remains relevant to organizations maintaining existing BioStation 2 installations, but customers planning a new deployment should be aware that Suprema has discontinued the BS2-OEPW, BS2-OMPW and BS2-OHPW models and introduced BioStation 2a as their official successor.

IP65 Protection

Suprema specifies BioStation 2 with an IP65 ingress-protection rating.

This makes the device suitable for appropriately designed indoor or outdoor installations within the manufacturer's environmental specifications.

IP65 should not be interpreted as meaning the unit is waterproof under every condition. Installation location, cabling, mounting, environmental exposure and manufacturer's installation requirements remain important.

BioStar Integration

BioStation 2 is designed for use within Suprema's biometric and access-control ecosystem, including compatible BioStar environments.

Depending on the deployment, the system can be used for functions such as:

  • User enrolment and management
  • Credential administration
  • Access rights
  • Device configuration
  • Event monitoring
  • Attendance-related workflows
  • Access-control administration

For an existing system, customers should verify the BioStar version, device firmware and overall system compatibility before adding or replacing hardware.

Applications

BioStation 2 may be used in appropriately designed systems for:

  • Corporate offices
  • Commercial buildings
  • Warehouses
  • Manufacturing facilities
  • Educational facilities
  • Staff entrances
  • Restricted-access areas
  • Employee access control
  • Time and attendance
  • Existing Suprema system expansion
  • Legacy BioStation 2 replacement requirements

Purpose of Use

BioStation 2 authenticates users through supported fingerprint, RFID and PIN credentials and can form part of a networked access-control or attendance environment.

The terminal itself should not be treated as a complete access-control installation.

Depending on the project, additional door hardware, locks, exit devices, power supplies, controllers, network infrastructure, software configuration and other components may be required.

Important Legacy Product Guidance

BioStation 2 is now a legacy/discontinued product, but that does not make every existing unit obsolete for practical use.

There are two different purchasing situations:

Existing BioStation 2 Installation

An organization may specifically require the original BioStation 2 because it is maintaining an installed system. In this case, verify the exact existing model and credential technology before sourcing a replacement.

New Access-Control Project

For a new deployment, customers should normally compare the current BioStation 2a platform before choosing remaining legacy BioStation 2 inventory.

The correct decision depends on compatibility, project requirements, software environment, credential technology and lifecycle considerations.

Official Successor Information

Suprema announced the discontinuation of the BioStation 2 BS2-OEPW, BS2-OMPW and BS2-OHPW models on 9 May 2024.

Manufacturer lifecycle information specifies:

Last Order: 9 November 2024
End of Service: 9 November 2027

Suprema identifies the following successors:

BS2-OEPW → BS2A-ODPB
BS2-OMPW → BS2A-ODPB
BS2-OHPW → BS2A-OAPWB

The newer platform is Suprema BioStation 2a.

A successor designation does not automatically mean every existing installation is a plug-and-play migration. Credential technology, wiring, software, firmware, mounting, configuration and other system requirements should be reviewed before replacement.

BioStation 2 vs BioStation 2a

BioStation 2 is the older generation covered by this page.

BioStation 2a is the newer manufacturer-designated successor platform.

They should not be combined into one product listing because they are distinct product generations with different hardware capabilities, credential support and lifecycle status.

Customers searching specifically for an existing BioStation 2 should therefore still be able to identify the older product clearly, while customers planning a new deployment should be informed that BioStation 2a is now available.

Things to Verify Before Ordering

Before purchasing a BioStation 2, please confirm:

  • Exact model number
  • Whether the requirement is for an existing installation or new project
  • Required RFID/card technology
  • Existing fingerprint database requirements
  • BioStar environment and software version
  • Network requirements
  • Wi-Fi requirements
  • PoE requirements
  • Existing wiring and access-control architecture
  • Door hardware requirements
  • Required accessories
  • Installation environment
  • Quantity
  • Product condition
  • Current availability
  • Remaining manufacturer service lifecycle
  • Whether migration to BioStation 2a should be considered

If replacing an existing unit, providing a photograph of the product label and exact model number can help reduce compatibility mistakes.

Buyer Guidance

Do not select BioStation 2 simply because another unit looks identical.

Different BioStation 2 variants support different RFID technologies.

For customers maintaining an existing system, matching the exact model can be important.

For customers designing a new system, compare BioStation 2a before committing to discontinued BioStation 2 hardware.

This provides a clearer balance between immediate compatibility and longer-term product lifecycle.

Why NEOTECH® UAE?

At NEOTECH®, product information is not treated as something we publish once and forget. We improve it whenever we discover a clearer, safer, or more useful way to serve the customer.

That means reviewing manufacturer information, correcting outdated specifications, identifying product lifecycle status, distinguishing exact model configurations, documenting official successor relationships and updating buyer guidance when better information becomes available.

This BioStation 2 page is an example of that approach. Rather than presenting a discontinued product as though it were still current, we clearly identify its lifecycle while preserving useful information for customers who genuinely need the older model.

Our objective is simple: help customers understand what they are buying, whether it is right for their requirement, and what should be verified before they pay.

Learn First. Decide Second.

Request a Quote or Order in the UAE

For a quotation or availability check, please provide:

  • Exact model number, if known
  • Required quantity
  • Existing credential/card technology
  • Whether this is a replacement or new installation
  • Existing BioStar environment, where applicable
  • Delivery location within the UAE

Because BioStation 2 is discontinued, availability should always be confirmed before payment.

A: Not necessarily. If the existing system is operating correctly, replacement should be based on lifecycle planning, compatibility and actual requirements rather than simply because a newer generation exists.

Q: Can I still buy BioStation 2?
A: Remaining or legacy stock may exist through supply channels, but availability must be checked because the manufacturer has discontinued the relevant models.

Q: Can NEOTECH® help identify my exact BioStation 2 model?
A: Yes. Provide the model number from the device label and, where useful, photographs of the existing unit so the requested configuration can be checked before quotation.
